A great story

Today was a sad day, and a hard day, but we made it through it. I am so proud to be Maggie and Fionn's mommy. They were so wonderful today, and they made life easy for me when I didn't really have the capacity to be a great mom. Maggie literally grabbed my head and put it on her shoulder at one point comforting me. It's always hard to explain loss to our babies, to explain what happens next. They KNOW about heaven, and that gramma went there, but they don't REALLY understand why they can't talk to them anymore. At least I know that Maggie has always struggled with that. I was just reading Amanda's blog, and she had this great little story on her blog that I loved. So i thought I would share it with you. Maggie and I just read it together and we both really enjoyed it. Thanks Amanda!

The Dragonfly

Once, in a little pond, in the muddy water under the lily pads, there lived a little water beetle in a community of water beetles. They lived a simple and comfortable life in the pond with few disturbances and interruptions.

Once in a while, sadness would come to the community when one of their fellow beetles would climb the stem of a lily pad and would never be seen again. They knew when this happened; their friend had passed, gone forever.

Then, one day, the little water beetle felt an irresistible urge to climb up that stem. However, he was determined that he would not leave forever. He would come back and tell his friends what he had found at the top.

When he reached the top and climbed out of the water onto the surface of the lily pad, he was so tired, and the sun felt so warm, that he decided he must take a nap. As he slept, his body changed and when he woke up, he had turned into a beautiful blue-tailed dragonfly with broad wings and a slender body designed for flying.

So, fly he did! And, as he soared he saw the beauty of a whole new world and a far superior way of life to what he had never known existed.

Then he remembered his beetle friends and how they were thinking by now he had passed. He wanted to go back to tell them, and explain to them that he was now more alive than he had ever been before. His life had been fulfilled rather than ended. But, his new body would not go down into the water. He could not get back to tell his friends the good news. Then he understood that their time would come, when they, too, would know what he now knew. So, he raised his wings and flew off into his joyous new life!

Praying for you and your family Ginger. I am so sorry for this sadness you are enduring. I too read this story on Amanda's blog and it explains the "time between" in a simple and visual way. Asking God to comfort you in all the days ahead and gently help you through. Again, I am sorry for your pain and loss.

Love and Hugs, Laurie

Aww, you are too sweet! I am glad that you and Maggie liked that story (too bad I can't remember where I found it!) It was perfect timing I think that I had this story to share with you (I actually think I found it some time within the last week...) Continued prayers to you and your family during this very difficult time.

Hugs,
Amanda

I just got to see your posts today. I am so sorry for your loss!! Your family will be in my family's prayers.

I will say a special prayer for your father. My dad became widowed suddenly from my mom 12 yrs ago and I know he still misses her.
